On Wednesday evening, July 21st, St. Bridget's held its annual Neighborhood Ice Cream Social.  Over 200 parishioners, neighbors, and friends came together on the church lawn to share hot dogs, ice cream, root beer floats, pies, cookies, and soft drinks--all in an effort to get to know one another better and build a stronger community.  Prior to the event, Br. John and members of the parish Social Justice Committee canvassed several blocks around the perimeter of the church to hand out flyers and extend a personal invitation to our neighbors.  All the food and beverages were donated and volunteers from the parish set-up, prepared the feast, served our guests, and cleaned up.

The event began with a short prayer for the peace and safety of our neighborhood, especially our children and young people, led by Fr. Anthony, TOR.  Before the party ended, door prizes were awarded to several lucky winners.

This annual event began a number of years ago as a way of thanking our parishioners who volunteered their time and energy at the parish Summerfest.  Several years ago, we decided to make it a neighborhood event in an effort to get to know the people who live around the church and to give them an opportunity to get to know us.  This year, we were struck by the number of new faces and young people who attended.  This gave us hope that the neighborhood around St. Bridget's is growing and that new families with children are moving into the area.
